Meeting with the Wise
County Republican Party
Wise
County Courthouse
Decatur,
Texas
September
14, 2009, 6:30 PM
Wise County
Republican Party Chairman, Allen Williamson, opened the meeting by calling upon Precinct Chairman and pastor
Windell Splawn for the invocation.
Mr. Williamson led us in saying the pledges to the United States and the
Texas State flags.
Minutes from the August 10, 2009 Joint Meeting
of the WRW and the WCRP, as well as the minutes of the WRW Executive Board of
September 1, 2009, were approved as posted in advance on the WCRP web site.
Bill Marney
gave the treasury report for the
WCRP. The balance is $1,189.17. Dottie Chase gave the treasury
report from the WRW as being $10,438.98 (about 25% is designated for already
incurred expenses). Treasurer
Chase read a letter of gratitude from the Operation Forever Free organization
for the $1,242 gift from the March 28, 2009 Republican Fund Raiser gun lottery
net proceeds.
We had
several Wise County elected officials
attended our meeting and the following were introduced: Justice of the
Peace Judge Terri Johnson; County Clerk Sherry Parker-Lemon, Tax Assessor-Collector
Monte Shaw, and County Treasurer Catherine Canova Hudson, and keynote speaker,
Texas Legislative District #61 Representative Phil King.
Candidacy
announcements were made tonight for two of our Wise County local judges. Judge
John H. FostelÕs run for his fifth term was
announced for the 271st District Court which
serves Wise and Jack Counties. Justice of the Peace Judge Terri Lynn
Johnson announced her run for a second term in Precinct #2. She also announced a fund-raising clay
shoot for Saturday, November 14 at 1:00 PM. Details will be publicized later.
Discussion
was held on the upcoming ÒMeet and GreetÓ event to be held on October 10, 2009 from 2:00
– 5:00 PM at the Brushy Creek Winery. Jim Parker has been appointed to chair this event committee
by WCRP Chairman Allen Williamson.
Mr. Parker announced early organization and announced a planning
committee meeting to be at his home on Tuesday evening, 7:00 PM on September
22.
Former WCRP
Chairman D. A. Sharpe announced the speaker of the evening, the Honorable Mr.
Phillip (Phil) Stephen King of Weatherford.
Mr. King
gave a summery of the political influences currently in the Texas Legislature
and the background behind this JuneÕs creation of a new PAC, the GOPAC-TX,
designed to increase Republican representation in the Texas Legislature. He also reviewed the proposed eleven
Amendments to the Texas State Constitution scheduled on the General Election
Ballot of November 3, 2009. Most
are non-controversial fixes in the Constitution, except some caution is
highlighted on Amendments #1 and #9.
They are not bad legislation, but some may have a preference to oppose
them.
Chairman
Williamson thanked Representative King and announced our next meeting will be
held on Monday, October 12 at 6:30 PM.
He then adjourned the meeting.
Respectfully
submitted,
D. A. Sharpe
Acting
Secretary
